All courses offered through IAKM may be taken individually by those interested in building their knowledge without having to earn a certificate or graduate degree.
Professionals who have found themselves working in user experience design and knowledge management and would like to
pick up a foundation without being required to earn a full credential
may opt to take individual courses at Kent State University as
non-degree students. Such students are still required to complete a university application, but the admissions process is much more abbreviated than the regular process.

IAKM 60313 - Strategic Knowledge Management - Virtual Communities
Instructor: Dr. Denise Bedford
Communities of practice are groups of people who share a concern, a set of
problems, or a passion about a topic, and who deepen their knowledge and
expertise in this area by interacting on an ongoing basis. While communities
of practice have been around for centuries, they continue to evolve and are
an integral part of the knowledge
management domain.
In this course,
we will be using real world examples to learn how
communities of practice
work and their role in knowledge creation and transfer. We will also try to
grow to grow the body of knowledge
about Communities of Practice through our
own learning in the course.
