Applying to IAKM
These are the general instructions for applying to a graduate program (degree, or certificate) in IAKM. To apply to Kent State University graduate study for the first time, you must submit the following materials:
1. University Application
Online Application
The online application is the primary means of applying for admission to graduate study at Kent State University. For each online application option, students are required to create an account, which allows them to save the application and track the progress of materials submitted via the application system. For more information, see the instructions on the application.
University Application (for both U.S. and International Students)
Print Application
Those students interested in a print application should contact the IAKM Office at iakm@kent.edu if a print application packet is preferred.
International Admissions provides a copy of the international application for download (PDF). Those international students who would like an application packet mailed to them should contact the IAKM Office at iakm@kent.edu.
2. Standardized Test Scores
Official GRE Scores
Applicants with appropriate professional experience or background or evidence of successful graduate work may not have to take the GRE (see our frequently asked questions page for details). The GRE is recommended for those who have undergraduate grade point averages under the required 3.0 or those who do not have evidence of successful graduate work. If you are unsure about how to submit official GRE scores through the GRE testing center, please contact Janna Korzenko, 330-672-5841. For more information and to schedule your exam, see the GRE website.
Official TOEFL Scores
All international applicants whose education has been primarily outside the United States must provide objective evidence of proficiency in the English language with some exceptions. If you would like to determine whether you will be required to submit TOEFL scores, see the English Language Proficiency page on the Admissions site.
3. Official transcripts from each college/university in which 8 semester hours or more were earned (except for Kent State University). Official transcripts are not issued directly to the student but are sent at the student's request.
4. Resume / curriculum vita
5. Statement of Purpose
6. Computer Literacy Checklist
7. Three letters of Recommendation on the required forms
All application materials must be submitted to the Office of Graduate Program Services via mail (address below). Items 1-6 may also be submitted electronically to gradapps@kent.edu.
