Admission Requirements

In addition to the regular application requirements of the university, admission to the Master of Science degree requires the following:

  • Minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 (A=4);
  • Satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and/or appropriate professional experience (the Graduate Record Examination is recommended because admission is selective and strong scores from the Graduate Record Examination may improve one’s standing in the selection process)
  • Satisfactory scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for all international applicants whose education has been primarily outside the United States must provide objective evidence of proficiency in the English language with some exceptions. If you would like to determine whether you will be required to submit TOEFL scores, see the English Language Proficiency page on the Admissions site.
  • Computer Literacy Checklist;
  • Letter of Recommendation Forms from those in a position to evaluate academic performance and graduate potential;
  • Resume;
  • Statement of Purpose about how the program will help the applicant realize his/her career and/or research goals.

With respect to computer literacy, an applicant’s record and experience will be assessed. If the level of literacy does not appear adequate to the demands of the core course of study, the applicant’s advisor will suggest workshops, courses or other appropriate methods to remedy significant deficiencies. Credits for workshops or courses for satisfying such background requirements will not apply to the degree. A background knowledge of statistics and economics is highly desirable.

Students may be admitted on a conditional basis. This occurs generally when the minimum GPA is not met, but the other application materials such as professional experience and strong academic letters of recommendation show aptitude for graduate study.
