Fast to Join IAKM Faculty |

Karl V. Fast has been appointed assistant professor, Information Architecture and Knowledge Management (IAKM), at Kent State University. Fast will begin his teaching and research on the Kent campus Fall of 2007.
A Ph.D. candidate at the University of Western Ontario, Fast is completing his degree requirements in summer 2007 in Library and Information Science. His dissertation, Reconceptualizing digital libraries as interactive knowledge environments, highlights his expertise in the areas of information architecture, information usability and engineering, digital libraries, and ubiquitous computing. His research interests concern how interaction with different forms of information, especially visual representations, can support knowledge activities and lead to processes that are closely aligned with user tasks, information and work content, and representational form.
Fast has been awarded numerous scholarships and teaching awards including the Teaching Honour Roll Award of Excellence from the University of Western Ontario and has published and presented at conferences and workshops in the United States and Canada.
Professional memberships include the Information Architecture Institute, of which he is a founding member and the American Society for Information Science and Technology. Fast also serves on the Board of Advisors for Intuitect Software (KMS Group).
