World Usability Day 2009 - Usability Efforts at Kent State
News

As part of World Usability Day celebrations, IAKM will present three speakers who will discuss sustainability issues relating to Kent State such as the redesign of the Kent.edu Web site. Panelists will include: Melanie Knowles, Kent State’s new sustainability manager, who will speak about the various ways sustainability can be manifested and used in an organization; Sameer Jaleel, Kent State manager of applications development, who will talk about the recent Kent.edu redesign from the user experience design perspective and how it relates to sustainability; and Matt Pahls, Kent State senior applications developer, who will speak of the integration of the variety of products for seamless use for students.

The panel discussion is from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12 in Rm. 332 of the Kent State Library. The conversation will also be streamed live on event day at http://bit.ly/19Cqfz.

 
NEOUPA Celebrates World Usability Day in Cleveland, Ohio

NEOUPA, the local chapter of the global Usability Professionals’ Association, is celebrating the 5th year anniversary of World Usability Day Thursday, November 12, from 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM at Corporate College East in Warrensville Heights. Fall 2009 KM Online Open House

On Thursday, October 29, 2009, IAKM hosted an online, interactive session about the certificate program and Master of Science degree in Knowledge Management at Kent State University.

The presentation features Dr. Denise Bedford speaking about the KM program and the courses she teaches including a new course in Spring 2010 on communities of practice (IAKM 60313).   Program Director Dr. Thomas Froehlich presents an overview of the program and answers questions submitted by live viewers.

 

 
Bedford and Zeng Presented at CENDI/NKOS Workshop
News
Dr. Denise Bedford and Dr. Marcia Zeng both presented at the recent Joint CENDI/NKOS Workshop “Knowledge Organization Systems: Managing to the Future,” held at the National Agricultural Library, Beltsville, MD, October 22, 2009. This is the ninth workshop on KOS-related topics sponsored by NKOS in the U.S. since 1998. CENDI is an interagency working group of senior scientific and technical information managers from 13 U.S. federal agencies. Dr. Bedford’s presentation is “Ontology Summit Review 2008-2009” and Dr. Zeng reported “ISO 25964: Thesauri and Interoperability with Other Vocabularies”.
 
U.S. News and World Report Names User Experience as a "Best Career" for 2009
News
