World Usability Day is meant to raise awareness of the need to make products and services easier to use or access for everyone with this year’s theme of healthcare. Everyone is affected by usability in healthcare, including future medical professionals. Improvements in realistic simulators and simulations mean more effective practice sessions for future doctors, nurses and pharmacists, for better medicine and a healthier tomorrow.

World Usability Day is meant to raise awareness of the need to make products and services easier to use or access for everyone with a general spirit of “Making Life Easy!” Each year more organizations around the world plan events to raise awareness of usability issues in important areas such as healthcare, education and government. In 2006 Kent State University’s IAKM program hosted one of the 225 worldwide events in 175 cities and 35 countries. There were over 40,000 attendees and volunteers in 2006.
The Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy (www.neoucom.edu) are community-based, public institutions focused on the interprofessional training of health professionals, offering both a doctor of medicine (M.D.) and a doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. The colleges’ educational partners include teaching hospitals, community pharmacies, two boards of health and four northeast Ohio public universities. Through these and other collaborative arrangements, the colleges participate in the Consortium of Eastern Ohio Master of Public Health program and offer graduate-level coursework and research opportunities leading to master’s and doctoral degrees in biomedical sciences and biomedical engineering.
The Graduate Program in Information Architecture and Knowledge Management offers graduate coursework, certificates and degrees in information architecture, usability and knowledge management through on site and online courses. For more information see the program website at iakm.kent.edu or contact
